It seems like airports never sleep. But amid the frenzied activity and noise, some airports are starting to recognize travelers’ needs for a place of solitude to escape to when traveling through the airport.
How often have you wanted just to spend 10-15 minutes in a quiet place to reset your mind so you can have a happier onward journey? Airport noise can lead to headaches, stress, and negative emotions that affect how we feel and act. This is detrimental not only to us but to all the people around us.
Philadelphia Airport is the latest airport to recognize how valuable quiet time is when traveling.

Philadelphia Airport’s new Quiet Room is beautiful and functional
The bright whites and light neutral colors of the entrance that reads Quiet Room make you feel at peace before you even get inside.
Unlike traditional prayer rooms, the Quiet Room is a non-denominational open space for those who wish to use it however they’d like (while being respectful to other users). People can pray, meditate, or just take a moment to sit in silence in the beautifully designed room.
“We encourage our passengers to use this room with respect while enjoying a moment of tranquility before continuing their travels,” said Airport CEO Chellie Cameron.
This 315-square-foot space has two sections that are separated by a series of frosted glass panels. The pattern on the glass is made to look like dandelion seeds. A press release from PHL explains: “Since the dandelion flower can thrive in difficult conditions, some say it symbolizes healing from emotional and physical injury alike and the ability to rise above life’s challenges.”
Covering one wall is a large macro flower photo that introduces more natural visuals into the space. The room features L-shaped wooden benches as well as footbaths for religious purposes. Soft lighting and a large blue curtain add to the calm.
You’ll find the Quiet Room in the hallway that connects Gate D and Gate E at Philadelphia Airport. It’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Airport quiet rooms around the world
Other airports are taking note, too. Frankfurt Airport also has a Quiet Room, which offers travelers a dedicated space to escape the hustle and bustle of the airport terminal. Doha’s Hamad International Airport even has separate quiet rooms for men and women.
