Denver Airport Pop-Up Park: The Perfect Place To Get Away From It All

Picture a gorgeous, expansive green oasis where you can go to unwind and de-stress. Now picture it at the fifth-busiest airport in the United States.

If it seems impossible, just wait until you lay eyes on Denver Airport’s newest addition.

The new Denver Airport Pop-Up Park launched this past Friday. The park features native Colorado flora and 9,000 square feet of turf. You’ll also find lawn games like corn hole, lunchtime fitness classes, and relaxing lounge seating here.

Students in Colorado State University’s Landscape Design & Contracting Program curated potted gardens that include trees and plants native to the state’s plains ecosystem. We love this touch. This gives passengers the chance to experience local flora without even leaving the airport.

The new development is part of a growing trend of airports developing open-air spaces that offer a much-needed dose of fresh air and respite for travelers cooped up in stuffy terminals and cabins. We can’t wait to see more of these refreshing green spaces created in an effort to make air travel a healthier, happier experience for everyone.

Other great places to get some rejuvenating outdoor time include JFK’s rooftop terrace in Terminal 5, and Frankfurt Airport’s new rooftop terrace in Terminal 1. The latter even has a telescope so you can watch the runway activity in detail. There’s also an informational stand that tells you exactly what they’re doing down there.

Denver Airport Pop-up Park summer events

This summer, the Denver Airport Pop-up Park will host a handful of events. Some of these include patriotic music on July 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Colorado musician Eric Lane on Aug. 1 from noon to 2 p.m., and a dog agility course on Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Music and dogs, too? Count us in! Check out the complete list of events here.

Increasingly, airports are becoming healthy living hubs that actually contribute to rather than detract from our lives. With so much time spent in transit through terminals and in the air, we couldn’t be happier about these thoughtful transformations taking place.

The Pop-Up Park is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through to September 3, weather permitting. The 82,000-square-foot open-air plaza is located before security. It’s at the south end of the Jeppesen Terminal, connecting the terminal to the Westin Denver International Airport and Transit Center.

Come by and enjoy all the free park activities, and share your photos using #DENEvents and #ITravelWell
